You Kill Me

The thug-in-therapy premise is used once again in You Kill Me, starring Ben Kingsley as an alcoholic assassin who botches a job for his Polish mob family in Buffalo, N.Y. by snoozing instead of slaughtering. The lethal lush gets shipped to rehab in San Francisco, where he ironically gets a job at a local funeral home. There, the deadly drunk meets a sharp-tongued looker (Téa Leoni) who quickly captures his heart. When the Irish mafia threatens his home turf, the ex-hitman returns to New York, even though he questions his confidence since he hasn’t completed the 12-step program. B-list actors such as Bill Pullman, Luke Wilson, Dennis Farina and Philip Baker Hall fill out the cast, but it’s Leoni’s searing performance that keeps John Dahl’s black comedy alive.
