Tribute...

A transplant from New Orleans, this adopted son's musical career emanated from the wellspring of the indie rock scene of the 1980s as part of seminal Tucson bands Phantom Limbs and River Roses. He went on to work with so many others, from the pseudo Eastern European lounge of The Zsa-Zsas to the alternative country of Silverbell. An ace guitarist by any measure, he leant his formidable talents to numerous recording projects, most recently adding his tasteful magic to longtime friend Chris Holiman's solo recordings.

Ruley suffered a heart attack in March 2018. He rallied during his convalescence, displaying the same indomitable spirit that made him a beloved and highly esteemed guitar hero within the Tucson music community for over three decades.

Gene Ruley left this world on Sunday, Aug. 26. He was 54. In his own words, via social media, Ruley said goodbye. "To all my fellow travelers, what a privilege to have you along!"

Gene Rules! A Tribute To The Late Great Gene Ruley is Saturday, Oct 6, at Club Congress with special musical guests.

By cross pollinating elements of indigenous folk, punk and electronica, they created a rich mezcla of sound, which subsequently spearheaded a non-conformist musical movement that swept throughout Latin America.
