Winnie the Pooh

Rated G 69 minutes 2011

During a summer of brain-dead blockbusters (I’m talking to you, Michael Bay!) comes this wonderful old-school animation treat from Disney. Disney animators have gone to great lengths to capture the look and sound of the old Winnie the Pooh shorts, and they have accomplished greatness. The beloved stuffed bear finds himself doing familiar activities (honey-hunting and looking for Eeyore’s tail), while nice new touches—including John Cleese as the narrator, and the singing of Zooey Deschanel—help bring Winnie into the modern age. Jim Cummings, who has been voicing Pooh since the late ’80s, is the perfect replacement for Sterling Holloway. While kids will like it just fine, parents and young adults are the real audience for this one. If you had Winnie the Pooh footy pajamas in the ’70s and dug watching the old shorts on The Wonderful World of Disney, this one’s for you
