Russell (Tom Cullen) is a lifeguard living a very closed-off life in England. After a party with friends, he heads out to a club and meets Glen (Chris New), and the two men hook up. Over the next couple of days, they stay together and have many discussions about their sexual orientation: Russell has yet to fully come out, while Glen is out and can’t quite understand what is holding Russell back. The conversations are occasionally hard to understand due to the actors’ thick English accents, but the film’s message comes through quite clearly. The acting is stellar, and Andrew Haigh, a regular assistant editor for Ridley Scott, steps up to the writer/director chair magnificently, creating a film that is not only well-written and poignant, but beautifully shot.
