    Re: “Guest Opinion
I take issue with Sheriff Napiers premise that those with ICE Detainers in our county jail have brioken the law. This perspective and viewpoint seem to be the foundation and rationale for considering and finally allowing ICE Agenrs to enter our county jail. Unfortunately, this premise underscores a dangerous bias that is pervasive among law enforcement officials who are seeking to be more than enforcers of publicly safety. Those charged with keeping the peace are NOT elected or chosen to act as jurists in our legal system. While Sheriff Napier may believe he has found a creative way to have his cake and eat it too on this issue, I am not convinced his bias has not been a factor in his rationalization to allow ICE Agents access to our jails; and I think he should look more to the community than to National [Law Enforcement] Organizations to shape his policies. Jurisdictional Authority, the preservation of Constitutionam
Due Process for every individual should be the factors guiding policies like this. I think Sheriff Napier needs to go back to the drawing board on this issue and provide better reason instead of justification for adopting this policy.
