Re: “MacGruber

Re: “MacGruber”

SNL based films have always been a crapshoot, oh, who am I kidding? Almost all of them have been god awful, the exceptions being of course The Blues Brothers, Wayne's World and 1/3 of The Ladies Man and Coneheads respectively. Now comes MacGruber and well...keep rolling the dice. Will Forte is frequently funny as a mulleted enfant terrible throwing Will Ferrelesque man tantrums and being arrogant while incompetent. But unfortunately we've seen that before, and we've seen it done better. Not only by Mr. Ferrel but also my Ben Stiller and Danny McBride. This comedic archetype is fast losing its appeal due to the rule of diminishing returns. The over confident dunce routine needs to be retired. Unfortunately Will Forte hasn't been notified. Kristen Wiig does a good job supporting and is always awkwardly funny when the comedy ball is tossed her way. In fact the entire cast including good sport Val Kilmer do a decent job with what their given it's just that the film is not a sum of its parts. MacGruber is directed by Jorma Taccone, he of The Lonely Island fame, and despite flat out loving his previous directorial effort Hot Rod, I found his new film lacking that laugh domino effect that all great comedies possess. So, overall I'll say there are some standout gags, the two sex scenes are both painful and hilarious, but MacGruber the MacGeyver parody suffers from its lack of inventiveness.

Re: “MacGruber

The guy above doesn't know what he's talking about because Akiva Schaffer, he also of Lonely Island fame directed Hot Rod.

Re: “Live

Very happy that you used a picture of Mr. Jenkins and myself but I must inform you that I, Mr. McMillen, was the one dressed like a young Col. Sanders; and my good friend Paul was the gentleman with the brownish shirt. Thanks a million though.
