Re: “Lackluster Lawmaking

Just like a journalist. All the important stuff going on and the only thing you can think about is where you are going to get your next hit. Maybe that is why somepeople think it should be outlawed.

Get high, have a blast, medicade and medicare will take care of you.

Re: “Guns & Schools: How To Best Keep AZ Kids Safe?

The proposal was for an armed guard in school as a deterrent to someone walking into a gun free zone and causing mayhem. NO ONE recommends arming teachers (although some would be capable). Leave it to the money hungry school boards to turn this into we need “more counselors”. What is a counselor going to do to improve the safety of the students? Do you know ANYONE who enjoys making the decision “am I going to shoot and possibly harm a student?” The proposal was for an armed guard in school as a deterrent to someone walking into a gun free zone and causing mayhem. Just knowing guards are there reduces the risks, just like knowing a house is unarmed increases its risks for burglary. Forget the "police receive hundreds of hours of physical and firearm training." B.S. Many sports shooters receive more training (at their own expense) and shoot more often than our police. Use them. Use military, off duty police officers, etc. Work with the NRA School Shield program to solve the problem. One doesn't need vulnerability assessments (what I do for a living), we are not deterring a terrorist attack. The guards shouldn’t be teaching or involved with administrative duties. They should be guarding. The concept is simple: 1)deterrent and 2) fast action. If you have to call the police, much damage will be done before they can get there, organize, and intervene. Get off your butt and do something. Passing gun legislation is not addressing the problem of killers. If one could take away the guns, the killer just changes his choice of weapons.

Re: “Boy Scouts Rethink Ban on Gay Leaders and Members

A study by The Williams Institute of the UCLA School of Law asks, “How many people are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender?,” and shows that that almost nine million American adults, not quite 4% of the American adult population — identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, and breaks down those numbers. Additionally, the Williams study shows 3.5% of American adults are gay, lesbian, or bisexual, including 1.8% of American adults who are bisexual.

Regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, 19 million American adults have had same-gender sex. Therefore, 10 million people, more than the number of people that identify themselves as homosexual, etc. have had same gender sex by choice. Not by gender orientiation.

This study was limited to adults.

I experienced my first encouter of a homosexual overture while I was in the sea scouts. I would not let my child (subject to peer pressure and authority) be mentored by a person of homosexual persuasion.
