Then She Found Me

Rated NR

This is the most grotesque exercise in ego I’ve seen since Keanu Reeves directed himself in that remake of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Helen Hunt directs and stars as April Epner, a woman who has only one facial expression. As her husband leaves her and her mother dies and she gets pregnant and meets her birth mother and thinks about adopting a Chinese baby, she frowns through what is, ostensibly, a comedy. It has no laughs, but it does have Bette Midler flouncing around in her full drag-queen act, so if you enjoy that sort of thing, well, I’d still avoid this film. A bonus point for casting Salman Rushdie as April’s gynecologist, Dr. Masani.
