This unholy hybrid of Western and samurai film—with circus freaks thrown in—is remarkable only in that somebody with money thought it was a swell idea to make it. Kate Bosworth and Geoffrey Rush slum in what amounts to nothing but polished trash peppered with the occasional freaky clown. A lone warrior from the East (Dong-gun Jang) comes to an old Western town—with a child in tow—in an attempt to escape a clan war. The town is being harassed by a band of evil cowboys, led by the intolerable Danny Huston. Rush, who was also in this year’s very good The King’s Speech
, embarrasses himself and his family as the town drunk. Bosworth, who once had a promising career, needs to avoid Western/samurai films peppered with scary clowns in the future.
