Step right up and feast your eyes upon this magnificent, glowing pile of blue dung! What we have here is the bona fide worst movie of the year so far. There’s a special place in hell waiting for the development team at Sony Pictures Animation, and actors Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris and Brendan Gleeson should be put in stocks for as long as this atrocity is in theaters. The threadbare plot revolves around Smurfette (nails-on-chalkboard voice by Katy Perry), who’s taken from the Smurf village by Gargamel (Azaria, shame on you) and his two homunculi he calls the Naughties. Oy vey. The mixture of computer animation and live action is akin to a bad acid trip, and the “jokes” mainly consist of fart noises and kicks to the groin. I hear this is the second film in a planned trilogy. Yay. The world’s children deserve better than this.
