The Protector

Rated NR

Its cinematography is grainy. Its plot is simplistic. Its dubbing is laughable. Its actors are amateurish. Yet, The Protector is great entertainment, thanks to martial arts wizard Tony Jaa, who reteams with director Prachya Pinkaew after 2003’s action-packed Ong-Bak. Once again, Jaa defies gravity with his lightning-fast legs as he pummels endless goons, scales walls and backflips out of harm’s way, seemingly without effort. Jaa does this as his character brings down a crime ring in order to retrieve his beloved elephants that the thugs stole, for some reason or another. The plot is irrelevant, because the real entertainment comes from watching Jaa slingshot across the screen with immunity to injury.
