Apocalypto meets 300 in this excuse for gratuitous slaughterwith themes of self-identity and family values, ironically, at its core. More than 1,000 years ago, a Viking boy is left for dead by his people in a bog among bugs and ruins. The Wampanoag Indians find him and nurse him back to health, even though they are at war with the Vikings. As a man, he comes to fight the Vikings single-handedly in order to defend his adoptive family. With minimal dialogue, silver hues of perpetual moonlight and excessive violence, director Marcus Nispel will turn away weak and queasy viewers, yet excite testosterone-filled action seekers.
