The Fast Runner

Rated NR

This is by far the best three-hour-long film ever shot in the Inuit language, way better than Star Wars: Episode 3—An Igloo of Evil, and way, way better than Schindler’s Igloo. In fact, The Fast Runner would be one of the best films of the year even if it weren’t entirely in Inuit. Stark cinematography, featuring a limited palette of blue sky, white ice and brown skin is used to create nearly painterly tableaus, and the story, about strife in an Inuit village caused by an evil spirit, a malicious plot for power and an adulterous woman and her scheming brother, is a sort of Tolstoy-on-ice. Really surprisingly entertaining, and featuring a sequence that’s already being hailed as a classic (you’ll know it when you see it, but in case you need a hint, look for the naked man running across the icy plain), The Fast Runner promises to be a movie that will be remembered, and written about, for a long time.
