Writer/director Mitchell Lichtenstein’s film is sort of a homage to 1950s atomic-horror movies, but with the precision filmmaking of Alfred Hitchcock. Made by a group of Hollywood bit players and outsiders, Teeth reveals that the real talent in Southern California is lurking in the hallways. The witty script features a teenage Christian who discovers that her God-given vagina has the capacity to detach the heads of intruders. The super-tight editing, inventive sound design and colorful, well-composed cinematography make Teeth the perfect piece of evidence in the case for lower budgets. If you like watching religious kids make use of their genitals to fight evil, you should certainly enjoy Teeth. I’m hoping for a sequel in which a young altar boy finds that his lower bowel has the power to help pedophile priests get right with God.
