Rated R 97 minutes 2014

In 2011, the American moviegoing public opened it’s arms and embraced the sassy and fabulous Melissa McCarthy when she appeared in Bridesmaids. We laughed at her gruff role alongside prim and proper Sandra Bullock in The Heat. When Identity Thief was released, we started shuffling uncomfortably and looking at our watches. Now, with the release of Tammy, we’re going to briskly walk out the door and not look back. McCarthy plays the title character, a dimwitted fast-food employee who loses her job before the opening credits have ended. She manages to wreck her car and she finds out her husband has been fooling around on her. Together with her boozin’ grandmother (a horribly miscast Susan Sarandon), the two go on a road trip and irritate everybody. McCarthy co-wrote this with her husband, Ben Falcone, who also directed. I’m guessing they didn’t have anybody around to simply tell them “no
