Drunk driving, drowsy driving, distracted driving. Until we accept that the thing that makes these dangerous is the one thing they have in common nothing will change.
We dont want to admit it, but driving is dangerous. Im not talking seat belts or airbags. Im reminding you that every time we choose to drive we put the world around us in mortal danger. Every time.
If I do this I might kill someone should be on all our minds when operating a machine as deadly as a motor vehicle. Can you imagine a car salesman or ad telling you that? Maybe they should.
Drivers dont get cited because society gives us a pass. Thats starting to change but we need publications like the Weekly to get on board. When describing a collision involving a motor vehicle dont attribute it to the vehicle. The truck didnt hit Popeye, the driver did.
Also, drop the term accident. When an outside force is not involved these crashes and wrecks are *never* an accident. Faulty manufacturing, poor maintenance, and especially lack of due care while driving are all 100% preventable by a person making a better choice. The smoldering wreckage and broken bodies of a motor vehicle collision are consequences, not accidents.
Driving is by far the most dangerous thing most people will ever do. Its past time to (once again) see it for what it is. Maybe then tens of thousands of people wouldnt be killed year after year after year.
Please don't vote for this nonsense. Its a carrot on a stick. Or a bud on a stick... You know that stuff that's tied to a stick.
Cannabis should be legal because it never should have been illegal. It is not harmful like the substances they want to regulate and tax it as. Don't let the profiteers win this one.
Who said all gun owners are like this guy? I'd like to see a source, because right now all that is is specious bumper sticker logic. As is 'outlaw everything?'
Mass killers pick places where someone they know is, or with lots of people, preferably densely packed, and confined even better. That correlates to gun free areas, but it's not the cause. A bar with a no weapons policy is actually a great idea. Rambo fantasies serve no purpose except to stroke the ego of the person touting it. Though I suppose they help to up the arms race we live in today.
You want a fantasy? Ask yourself honestly, if you could live in a world with zero guns, I mean absolutely none, would you?
Knives, eh? If this guy had a knife instead, a lot fewer families would be burying their loved ones this week.
It's long past time for the 2nd amendment to be replaced. The citizen militia doesn't exist because we now have a standing army. Private citizens have no need for high capacity firearms. If you feel you do, I suggest reevaluating your life choices.
The overuse of sugar has created a staggering health crises in the US. When will we tax it according to its burden on society? A burden similar to that of tobacco and alcohol. Yet for cannabis *no* such burden exists.
There was never a reason for cannabis to be illegal. There is likewise now no good reason to continue to punish citizens through a regressive tax for the simple act of purchasing it.
These schemes are not worth it. Not even as the proverbial carrot on the legalization stick.
