I understand that an initiatiative may be circulated for the 2016 ballot to expand the statutory powers of the Citizens Clean Elections Commission. I'd be an enthusiastic supporter of such a measure.
The money should go into a DEDICATED fund for schools, one that is outside the reach of the Governor and the Legislature.
That will allow proponents to sell it honestly as a measure that will fund education. It will prevent politicians from playing shell games (like the current rhetoric about "putting more money into the classroom" by taking it out of maintenance, transportation and library funding).
And it will address a genuine need: better support for public schools.
