Etherton Gallery, celebrating its 35th year, has the most provocative, professional—and coolest—exhibitions in Tucson. Specializing in photography, Etherton exhibits media of all kinds, from international and local artists alike. Last year the gallery offered up Danny Lyon’s wrenching Texas prison photos, and this season opened with a jolt with two photographic eminences, Roger Ballen of South Africa and the edgy Joel-Peter Witkin, and drawings by the gifted Alice Leora Briggs, formerly of Tucson. Also on the big Etherton plate: lectures at the Center for Creative Photography and panel discussions, book readings and even dance performances in the downtown gallery.
