Once an lgbt student is being bullied on a regular basis, and it is far more pervasive these days with twitter, Facebook, and other forms of media and instant access that it was in my day, I believe that the brain of that young person is forever wired to be "clinically depressed" and can only learn to cope with that debilitation.
Study those like myself who were in constant fear of harassment at school who have never been able to successfully put their lives together because the skills for getting support and maintaining relationships are not there. think of the financial costs to society when we, due to this debilitation, are never able to "make it" by societies standards".
These kids go out and act out bad behaviors and are at risk because no one loves them and that is all any kid really wants, but by the time they become adults they are so mistrusting that they do not have the capacity to be helped. I know this is a bit negative but just look at the various studies, like the new one by GLSEN and the transgender study by NGLTF and TCTE.
One of the biggest problems with our education system is that we let something like the no child left behind act stand. The second and more important is that parents do not demand the education that their grandparents got.
What this means to me is that we do not demand a well rounded education that includes the arts as well as sports that allows teenagers to explore occupations as well as collegial aspirations.
We have allowed our kids to become lazy and self serving since the 80's. Whats that famous line "greed is good" which is the epitome of that selfish and self serving nature. When I was in school citizenship was as important as anything else in school.
Forgive me at what I am about to do, but it needs to be said regardless.
Will anyone care about this before it is too late. Does anyone see a pattern here. The takeover of Government by the Corporate world. Can you say Fascist state. We the citizens should be outraged and call for an immediate impeachment process of all legislators that do not want to do the hard work of running our state. We need to codify in the state constitution that they can never do this to us.
