SPLASH!

Therapy often involves talking, talking and more talking. But for those who are struggling to express themselves after surviving trauma, or while experiencing depression, dementia and health disabilities, art therapy is a way to start the healing process. It's been shown to help people achieve insight, reduce stress and improve interpersonal skills and is used in a variety of settings.

Locally, the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and the Veterans Administration of Southern Arizona are partners in the Creative Arts Therapy Program. Proceeds from the fundraising event SPLASH!—starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 21, at La Encantada, 2905 E. Skyline Drive—will support the program.

For $25, attendees will enjoy food samplings, drinks and an event goodie bag. Restaurants include Acacia Real Food & Cocktails, Blanco Tacos & Tequila, Saint House Rum Bar and Union Public House. Live music will fill the air, and sights will include fashion displays and live art demonstrations where abstract and modern paintings will be created. A silent auction will offer a chance to bid on gift certificates, fine art, travel packages, performing arts tickets and more. For more information, visit saaca.org.
