Theres some controversy as to whether this film, which purports to be a true story, accurately details the odd relationship between millionaire heir to the Bakelite fortune Brooks Baekeland (Stephen Dillane), his mildly disturbed wife, Barbara (Julianne Moore), and their murderously deranged son, Anthony (played by Barney Clark as a child and the aptly named Eddie Redmayne as a young adult). The film is crisply photographed, and the costumes create a compelling vision of mid-20th-century couture. But the central element here is the odd relationship between Barbara and her son. I dont want to give too much away, though this is all a matter of public record, but lets just say that when Barbara and Anthony have sex, shes far too proper to fellate him, and winds up giving him a stately handjob after dismounting his still tumescent member.
