Rumor Has It...

A unique heirloom is passed down the line in this light and entertaining sister film to Mike Nichols’ The Graduate. Those familiar with the 1967 film and the detailed previews of this one know that the hand-me-down is a sexual encounters with the same man, in this case, Kevin Costner’s seductive character, Beau Burroughs. Like the women in her family before her, Jennifer Aniston’s character now gets possession of the heirloom. This just adds to her already-confused life as an unhappy fiancée in a dead-end job. Cue the intimidating firecracker of a grandmother (Shirley MacLaine) to provide witty advice, unconditional support and a guaranteed laugh. Also thrown into the chaotic mix is the recently engaged sister (Mena Suvari) on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Director Rob Reiner cleverly choreographs all emotional hysterics and comedic quips into one laugh-out-loud good time at the movies. And that’s no rumor.
