BLAH ... BLAH ... BLAH ... Love Songs for the New Millennium is the debut album from Riggs' creation, Scum of the Earth. Sounding similar to Zombie, BLAH ... is filled with dirty riffs, raw beats and horror-film soundbites.
Helping Riggs are Powerman 5000 guitarist Mike Tempesta, bassist Clay Others and drummer Seven. Driven by wah-wah guitar effects, "Altargirl 13" features drum work from Tempesta's brother, John (White and Rob Zombie, Testament, Helmet), marking this as the first time the two have recorded music together.
"What makes bad kids bad? What makes them do the things they do? Booze, babes and bad guys!" an announcer declares to kick-off the opening track, "I Am the Scum." The main riff and beat of the song is swaggering and sleazy, reminiscent of White Zombie's "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls," from the Beavis and Butt-head Do America soundtrack.
Two of the standouts on BLAH ... are the less brash offerings, "Little Spider" and "Give Up Your Ghost," both haunting acoustic pieces. The former features tribal percussions from System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan, while the latter concerns the death of Riggs' grandfather.
Riggs stepped up in a big way with BLAH ... , proving that is he far more than a guitarist for hire. Please take note, Mr. Zombie!
