Re: “Translating Prop 123 Ducey-Speak: "It's a First Step"

I agree with you 100% David, great analysis!! Those in opposition are planting their flag and refusing to take what we can get now. Those voting yes recognize that we can still take the money and THEN kick the public education haters out of office!

Re: “Wheeler Rolls on Prop 123 Support: "Prop 123 Is a Sham"

Who cares what Wheeler thinks. He originally endorsed Courtney Frogge for the AZ House and then withdrew that endorsement and went with Kirsten Engel. Seems like he has problems making and sticking with a decision.

Re: “Arizona's Taxes Are Too High? Compared to What?

@David W Our public schools are not failing. That is what the corporate reformers would have you believe the the facts are that scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) have been improving steadily since 2003. Fall for the "hater" rhetoric if you want, but the real problem is that our educational professionals are being stretched ever thinner to try and make up for the lack of funding our districts receive. As for @Old Pueblo Veteran, you want accountability? Don't look to the for-profit charter school and private school industry because you won't find it there.

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

Come on David, I seriously doubt Miller "assaulted" Douglas. I'm guessing he reached for the mike and brushed her arm. And of course, Douglas couldn't wait to file assault charges. Absolutely not saying Miller acted professionally, but we know Douglas wants to stir up controversy. And yes, it may not be incredibly detrimental yet, but neither is it contributing to the education of our state's students, nor is it setting a good example for them. Douglas needs to get recalled already and we need to beg Garcia to take the job!

Re: “Danehy

No, more money isn't the automatic fix but it is interesting that the best private schools advertise small class sizes, the best teachers, wonderful facilities and the latest technology to attract students. All of these things take money. In Arizona, the average private school tuition is about $10K. State provided funding per pupil in public schools is under $4K. Can more be done with more money? Absolutely. Claiming funding doesn't matter is a myth perpetuated by those who are to selfish to do the right thing for our kids.

Re: “Doug Ducey's Education Transition Team

No matter what the "benevolent" right-wingers claim, school choice is not for the "poor disadvantaged children." Many of those kids will never have the opportunity to attend a BASIS charter school or private school because their parents can't get them to the school that's outside the community in which they live. In 2012, over 90% of the kids who got tuition help from "tax dollars", didn't really need the help, their parents could afford the school on their own. Bottom line is that parents shouldn't have to make a choice! Every public community school should be a great school. The privatization of public education will only widen the gap between the haves and have nots, just as Ducey and his ilk have planned.
