TH, Thanks for the trail description. I travel on parts of this trail also.

Reading your description of the Gates Pass area made me think of my favorite trail there. I live near Gates Pass and a trail that runs literally behind my house travels from The International Wildlife Museum to the main Gates Pass parking lot over Bushmaster Peak. In the early part of this hike is Redemption Mountain. I gave it that name because of some writing on the top of the mountain. I wrote a blog post on this spooky location back in 2011 so I will just post a link here to the blog.

This is a semi-difficult, poorly-marked trail that takes around 5 hours to complete. I usually gets off trail several times. But it is worth the effort. I have found it better to start at the Gates Pass parking lot because it is easier to find the trail going up than finding a way down when coming from the east.
