Rated PG-13 87 minutes 2011

Priest does not effectively use 3-D, Paul Bettany or your time. Even though it bends the vampire genre in a cool way—setting up a dystopian futuristic society literally walled off from the Wild West—it never digs deeper into those details and settles for being a stupid action movie that happens to take place in that unexamined world. And really, even the action’s not very good. Bettany plays a nameless priest hunting down the vampires who have kidnapped his niece, and so you don’t forget he’s a man of the cloth, he has a crucifix tattooed on his face. Like most face tattoos, it limits his future job prospects, so it’s a good thing there are all those ungodly vampires to chase. Priest is not worth a matinee price, a rental price or, frankly, even an illegal download.
