TRANSIENT TANGLE

FOOTHILLS AREA

MAY 9, 11:43 A.M.

Two residents of the streets were arrested after scuffling at a busy street corner, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report.

A deputy was dispatched to Orange Grove Road and La Cholla Boulevard following a call from a passer-by about a fight between a man and a woman on one of the medians at the intersection.

The deputy interviewed a woman at the scene whom he knew to be a transient from previous contact with her.

The woman said that a man wearing a fluorescent visor had slapped the back of her head and kicked her leg as she walked along the median. She identified him as a vagrant who had been selling newspapers farther down the median.

Apparently anticipating arrest because she had a warrant for disorderly conduct outstanding, the woman then told the deputy, "I might as well give you this," and retrieved a nearly empty 40-ounce beer bottle from beneath her coat.

The woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, declared that she "just wanted to go to jail" and the deputy obliged the woman by arresting her.

The deputy then approached the newspaper vendor, who denied involvement in the fight, saying the woman's attacker was instead a bicyclist who had left the scene. But the deputy had arrived at the intersection just 35 seconds after the incident call and hadn't seen any bicycles leaving the area.

Further, the woman's story was corroborated by phone by the person who reported the incident.

The visor-wearing man was arrested on suspicion of both assault and false reporting to law enforcement.

SCREAMING, BLOOD AND MURDER

SAN XAVIER AREA

APRIL 9, 11:10 P.M.

A hot-blooded man spewed obscenities and threatened to massacre a blood-donation center when it wouldn't take his plasma—creating very bad blood with the staff, a PCSD report stated.

Staff at a south-side CSL Plasma Center told a sheriff's deputy that a male had come to give plasma but was told he'd have to return later because his blood pressure was too elevated. The man immediately became irate, the reportee said, storming into the lobby, where he yelled obscenities on the phone, "being very obnoxious." He allegedly got so angry that he shattered the phone.

The man was then told he must leave the center and if he didn't, in fact, he could not return later to try donating plasma again. The man then allegedly told the reportee that he "did not know who he was messing with and he would kill him and his staff if they did not leave him alone."

The man refused to leave until law enforcement was called, at which time he fled the scene. He had not been located at the time of the report.
