A mother told her 11-year-old child to walk approximately 2 miles to the Pima County Juvenile Court Center after he finished his lunch, a Pima County Sheriff's Department report said.
A man who stepped off a bus noticed the child wandering around the southside and thought he was too young to be there all by himself.
The boy told a deputy who responded to the bus rider's call that he hadn't finished eating at a Burger King at Palo Verde Road and Ajo Way, so his mother told him to walk to the Pima County Juvenile Court Center, 2225 E. Ajo Way, when he was done. His mom was going to the center to visit his brother, the report said.
The boy said he finished eating after his mom and stepfather left. He then started walking, but "was not completely sure of where to go" and became lost, the report stated.
The deputy took the boy to the court center to wait for his mother to finish her visit. While waiting, the boy said he felt "sad" and "scared" that his mom had left him at Burger King and had not provided him with directions. He also said his stepfather went to work.
The deputy arrested the boy's mother when she came outside for neglecting her son. At first, the woman admitted she had told her son to walk to the center, but then said her husband was supposed to pick him up. The deputy didn't buy it, according to the report, and pointed out her shifting stories.
The mother was cited and released.
Socked in the Face
Magee Road and La Cholla Boulevard Jan. 5, 2:35 p.m.
A paramedic said a senior slapped him in the kisser for no reason, a PCSD report stated.
The paramedic said he went to pick up the 79-year-old. As he was placing her onto a gurney, she reached up and slapped him in the face, he alleged. Another paramedic who saw what happened said the woman "slapped him as hard as she could."
One of the paramedics also claimed the woman had made explicit sexual comments when she was being picked up during an earlier incident.
The paramedic didn't want to press charges, but did want the deputy to warn the woman not to belt him again.
The woman asserted she had merely "petted" the paramedic's arm, but did admit to making sexual comments. She said she was joking.
The woman promised to change her behavior.
