Pina

Pina is less a chronicle of the life of noted choreographer Pina Bausch than it is a tribute to her life and work. No wonder; Bausch was to collaborate on this film with director Wim Wenders, but a week prior to filming, she was diagnosed with cancer. Within five days, she succumbed to the disease at 68. So the emotion of her dancers, many of whom worked with Bausch for decades, is evident throughout--and raw emotion was always integral to the performances she developed with her troupe. But Pina is more or less a concert film, and those are not terribly revealing, so if you don't think you'd be a fan of the expressionistic dance, there's probably not much here for you.

Pina is not showing in any theaters in the area.
