Re: “The Joy, the Suffering, the Poetry

TC, thank you for sharing your story and your poetry. This particular version of your life resonates with me, as I too enjoy writing, I too am a gender outlaw, and I too live with severe, chronic pain; mine the result of a spinal cord injury. I see youth in your courage and wish you the best in all your endeavors. I will not recover. I write as an ongoing form of treatment for both my spirit and my broken pieces and writing prose- poetry is the dogma of my religion. Although I've published a few small bits here and there, and I've enjoyed working with youth and adults in drug/alcohol treatment to support others to find the beautiful music of their own voices, my work has reached limited audiences. It's wonderful to see you getting out into the wild world running with kite high so that many people enjoy your gifts and benifit from your wisdom. Blessings to you.
With great respect,
Patrick Skater

Re: “My Heart Can’t Even Believe It

I have worked with children for over 20 yrs. but only once with a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome and he was also profoundly mentally retarded so I am very eager to read about Safie. I did once go bowling with an aquaintance and her 21 yr old brother who was, more than anything, very bossy. He was a completely different example of Down Syndrome. Like all of us, the diagnosis does not make the unique individual who carries it any different deep down. This story will be about Safie who has Down Syndrome, not Down syndrome that has Sofie. I want to learn about DS but even moree I want to get to know Sofie and her family.
