Particle Fever
One of the most significant scientific discoveries of the past century was the confirmation of the Higgs Boson, a particle first theorized 50 years ago. The fact that it’s been found opens up new chapters in the world of physics, and who knows what will follow. The search for the Higgs led to the decades-long construction of the Large Hadron Collider, a massive underground atomic racetrack of sorts in Switzerland. Documenting the discovery is Particle Fever, a fairly light bit of science, a must if the filmmakers want non-physicists to watch it. The documentary lays out what’s at stake pre- and post-Higgs and still manages to be very watchable. Weird credit: The film was edited by Walter Murch, who cut The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. While this film isn’t on that level, it’s still really digestible for such an in-depth piece of science.
