Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

It appears the Paranormal Activity series’ well has run dry, and if the yawns I heard from the audience is any indication, this might be the final nail in the coffin. Hopefully, that’s the case, because this fifth sequel offers nothing. Instead of a haunted home in the suburbs, we’re moved to a Latino neighborhood where two teenage boys record everything happening around them. Jesse lives in an apartment complex where a mysterious bruja is up to no good. After she’s inexplicably murdered by a fellow classmate, Jesse and his friend Hector break into her apartment and stumble upon a sinister shrine. Soon enough, Jesse wakes up with a gnarly symbol on his arm and he slowly becomes possessed. The scares are routine and cheap, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, and this is the only film I can think of that features a haunted “Simon” game.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is not showing in any theaters in the area.
