Re: “Has Tesla Settled on Reno?

Although it's not an entirely meaningless gesture it doesn't mean that Reno won the lottery. This is from the July 31 letter to Tesla shareholders.....

"In June, we broke ground just outside Reno, Nevada on a site that could potentially be the location for the Gigafactory. Consistent with our strategy to identify and break ground on multiple sites, we continue to evaluate other locations in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. The final site for the first Gigafactory will be determined in the next few months, once we have full visibility and agreement on the relevant incentives and processes for enabling the Gigafactory to be fully operational to meet the timing for Model 3".

Maybe Tesla pulls a stunt like that to encourage others to sweeten the pot even more.

Re: “Majority of Arizonans Think U.S. is "On the Road to Ruin"

I don't think it's outlandish to worry about increasing corporate power and seeing that as a threat to the future of the country.

Re: “Off-The-Charts Poor

I moved to Tucson in 1984, (I left in 2004), it wasn't that easy to find a job back then. I can't imagine what it is like now, it has to be much worse. I still have a home there, and usually visit 2-3 times a year. The city seems more and more destitute each time I visit. It still has it's charm due to the geography and history, but the economics of the town is downright ugly.
There probably isn't an easy answer to the problem, and I even wonder if Tucson's economic problems can be solved on a local level if there are no changes to our national policies. This is an economic trajectory the whole country is on, brought to us by over 30 years of Reagonomics and "free market" thinking. As the economic power of the middle class has deteriorated, Corporate Power has stepped in and put this country in a stranglehold, it seems no changes can be made. Undoing financial deregulation, free trade, and corporate power is a pretty daunting task. Try getting those messages thru the Corporate Media filter, it doesn't work. Maybe there will be a movement towards change sometime soon, but as of now it doesn't seem to be presenting itself.

Re: “Probably Surprising to No One, Sarah Palin's Not Running for President

To me she appeared to be a "pseudo" presidential candidate anyway, only looking to enrich herself financially. It's nice to see the entrepreneurial spirit alive and well in this country, so kudos to Sarah and all the other job creators. My dumb ass will never get her appeal, and I am actually insulted by the countless attempts in corporate media to put a pretty face behind all the ugly messaging.

Re: “If You Were Wondering if Hooters Girls Love America, They Totally Do

"Hooters Remembers" to exploit 9-11, war, and women all at once! How's that for corporate efficiency.

Re: “Grijalva: "Cutting Social Security Benefits and Raising the Medicare Eligibility Age Will Do Much More Harm Than Good"

For the most part I agree with Raul, jobs are the problem. But why is the focus always on public infrastructure jobs and not getting back jobs lost thru unfair "free trade"? Case in pont, the Bay Bridge in Oakland was essentially made in China, then shipped to the US. ....California officials say the state saved hundreds of millions of dollars by turning to China. “They’ve produced a pretty impressive bridge for us,” Tony Anziano, a program manager at the California Department of Transportation, said a few weeks ago.

And the current health care system is a mess, we have privatized profits and socialized losses. There seems to be something immoral about running health care as a business that manages to pay CEO's hundreds of millions of dollars in salary while not providing health care to those that need it.
