ROCCO THE VOTE

Rocco's Little Chicago Pizzeria (2707 E. Broadway Blvd.) is holding a cool little promotion introducing their Pizza of the Month. Rocco is accepting ideas for a pie, including toppings, crust style, preparation etc. Just stop by the joint and fill out an application. Winner gets some recognition and their pizza featured for a month. While you are there, don't forget to try their Best of Tucson deep dish pizza, and second place wings!

POPPY OPEN AN ARIZONA WINE

Poppy Kitchen, 3770 E. Sunrise Dr. (on the west side of the main parking area at Westin La Paloma Resort) has finally instated some local(ish) wines to their re-vamped wine list. Produced by Sand-Reckoner Vineyards in Willcox, the 2013 W and the 2012 Z give the Metzger Family Restaurant an Arizona flare on the boutique wine list. Poppy Kitchen's beer taps are also looking more like home with the addition of Tucson's Dragoon Stronghold Session Ale and the Roadside American Pale Ale from Flagstaff's Mother Road Brewing Company. Also, we're still on the lookout for Poppy's brother restaurant, Jackson Tavern, to open up on the southeast corner of Swan and Ft. Lowell soonish to let you know when you can grab your Northeastern style tavern grub. For more information, visit poppykitchentucson.com

SCREAM AT THE BLOCK PARTY

The Screamery, 50 S. Houghton Road, Ste. 120, (remember the great piece in the Weekly, by yours truly?) is having their belated grand opening party on Saturday, Oct. 25, in conjunction with a larger block party thrown by businesses sharing the four corners of Broadway Boulevard and Houghton Road. The intersection, housing other such eateries as Verona's Italian, Mama's Pizza, Magpies and some chains not be named, is throwing the celebration to thank customers for sticking by them through some bad, drug out construction. The party is not limited to restaurants though since everyone on the block is getting involved, even Safeway is barbequing (if that's your thing!) The event will include free food, a jumping castle, face painting, a magician, an impromptu car show, raffles and gift giveaways, and did I mention free food? If you live on the Eastside, will be in the area or would like to make the trip, this should be a cool party, so come on down, for what I hear is an all-day event.

JASON PART 3

Even though it's Halloween season, we're not talking about the masked killer Jason, but instead the food truck and subsequent physical location of (my personal favorite) Sonoran hot dogs, carne asada and other usual suspects. Taqueria Jason's third location is coming soon to 4230 N. Oracle Road (at Limberlost). You can find the original food truck on 22nd Street between Wilmot and Craycroft as well as the less mobile location on the corner of Wrightstown and Pantano Boulevard. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
