Noshing Around

Coming Soon: Conspiracy Beer

The Food Conspiracy Co-op at 412 N. Fourth Ave. will soon have a signature beer called Conspiracy Beer. Coley Ward, marketing manager for the co-op, says the beer will be an American ale brewed by Borderlands Brewing Company, the new brewery at 119 E. Toole Ave. The beer—which Ward says will be the most-affordable brew sold at the store—will be released in October at a tasting.

Oktoberfests!

Café Passé's Oktoberfest celebration wraps up this week with special German offerings on Saturday and Sunday. Owner Sabine Blaese, who is from Germany, is featuring a special menu of bratwurst with German potato salad; weisswurst with pretzels; and zwiebelkuchen, which is the name of a sweet onion pie that's a lot of fun to say. Oktoberfest beer will be on tap, and a polka band called the Bouncing Czechs performs on Saturday, Oct. 1. Café Passé is located at 415 N. Fourth Ave.; www.cafepasse.com.

Tucson Oktoberfest at Hi Corbett Field (3400 E. Camino Campestre) starts Thursday, Sept. 29, and continues through Sunday, Oct. 2. The annual festival isn't exactly a gourmet experience, but there are plenty of brats-and-sauerkraut offerings, turkey legs, German potato salads and burgers to be had. The beer lineup includes Paulaner, St. Pauli Girl and, alas, Miller Lite. Admission is $3; tucsonoktoberfest.org.

Tamales for Breakfast

Tucson Tamale Company has started serving breakfast on Sundays. The word is that there are several breakfast tamales to choose from, as well as tamales-and-eggs, and a huevos-rancheros hybrid made with masa pancakes instead of tortillas. Everything owners Todd and Sherry Martin touch becomes utterly delicious, and we're betting this will be no different; www.tucsontamalecompany.com.
