Coming Soon: RJ's Replays
Remember when Berky's Bar at 5769 E. Speedway Blvd. was a biker den? Well, those days are long gone, and RJ's Replays is taking its place. Owner Richard McClelland says he's banished the biker vibe to make room for his upscale sports bar, which is expected to open in early July. McClelland has installed 30 big-screen televisions—half are 3-D; glasses will be available at the bar—and separated the interior into different "sound zones" that allow multiple groups to enjoy different games at the same time. Expect a full bar, a full kitchen, more than 100 beers and live entertainment.
Coming Soon: U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt
As the name implies, you will be doing the swirling at the new self-serve U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt when it opens at 3587 E. Broadway Blvd. It's a chain store that sells about 18 different flavors of the frozen stuff, with new flavors introduced on a regular basis.
New: Pho #1
Pho Thu at 2226 N. Stone Ave. has been renamed Pho #1, and there's a new sign out front. The dining room has been fixed up a bit, but the menu has changed very little. That's fine with us, because the dishes at this little eatery leave little room for improvement.
Caffe Luce No. 2
Michael Foster's second Caffe Luce location is open at 4205 N. Campbell Ave., Suite 125. The original Main Gate Square café and microroastery will do the roasting for both shops, says Foster. As far as food, the new location sells a small selection of baked goods, and that's about it. Foster got into coffee while living in Seattle; he ran a successful coffee business in the mid-'90s. He says that gourmet coffee has a growing number of fans in Tucson, and he's amped to make his coffee—which is always freshly roasted and never on the shelves longer than a week—available on the northside.
A New Mr. K's
Mr. K's, the restaurant at 1830 S. Park Ave. that does barbecue right, is opening a location in the former Chili's location by the Tucson Mall. We hear that the new restaurant will be a venture between Mr. K's founder Charles Kendrick and some of the folks from Mays Counter. We'll be back next week with more details.
