Much Love for Lee Lee

Getting stared down by live catfish was just one of the highlights on our inaugural trip to the new Lee Lee Oriental Supermart at 1990 W. Orange Grove Road. Fresh-fish tanks aside, the store transforms grocery shopping into an international experience—items from Jamaica, Bangladesh, Korea and many other countries line the shelves, and it's all neatly organized by geographical region. You may have to Google uses for items like bitter melon and banana blossoms, but a bit of research will reveal an edible ethnic wonderland just waiting to be explored. A Vietnamese restaurant called Thuan Kieu has also opened next door, and a Chinese barbecue called Nan Tian BBQ is on the way.

Picazzo's

Picazzo's Gourmet Pizza, Salad and Pasta is scheduled to open early this year at 7850 N. Oracle Road, in Oro Valley. It's a chain restaurant with a number of locations in Arizona and Oregon, and a look at the menus at those eateries offered a glimpse into what's in store for the Oro Valley location. We found several crust options—most in the "thin" category—vegetarian selections, 10 kinds of cheese, dozens of toppings, wings, sandwiches, salads, gluten-free choices, a kids' menu and a lengthy list of signature pizzas. Visit www.picazzos.com for more information.

Speaking of Pizza ...

A new all-you-can-eat pizza joint called Pizza Plus #1 is taking up residence in the old Los Betos spot at 914 E. Speedway Blvd. Owner John Grother plans to serve New York and Chicago-style pizza, soup, salad and other items from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., with delivery service available to the dorms. Grother has also applied for a liquor license and is toying with the idea of keeping the place open until the wee hours of the morning. He said he hopes to have it open in the next couple of weeks.
