Game On Sports GrilleJay and Kim Thorpe have turned the old Chuy's location at 6453 N. Oracle Road into Game On Sports Grille, which opened in mid-December. Everything on the menu is made fresh, said Jay Thorpe. Chef Eric Sutter--who trained with Emeril Lagasse for seven years--even brines the corned beef and spices the pastrami onsite. For those who like a side of sports with their grub, the restaurant features 19 televisions. The first few months have gone well, Thorpe said, and breakfast hours will be added sometime in March. New Chef at Fire + SpiceDavid Ferrara is the new chef at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel and Suites' Fire + Spice restaurant at 5151 E. Grant Road. It's the sister restaurant of an identically named eatery at the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel Tempe. Ferrara is a Tucson native who says he favors the locally grown foods and Southwestern flavors he first encountered in his grandmother's kitchen. "If you come here to eat, you'll walk away with very home-style flavors," Ferrara said. "You're going to taste Arizona."
Cooking DemonstrationsAlbert Hall and Yeny Grusenmeyer of Acacia at St. Philip's give a demonstration on cooking with locally grown foods from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, Feb. 27, at the Tucson Museum of Art League's 2009 Designer Showhouse at Rancho Merlita (8520 E. Wrightstown Road). Ramiro Scavo, the executive chef of Zona 78, Harvest and Hacienda del Sol--who beat Hall at this year's Iron Chef Tucson competition--will demonstrate his know-how at the same location at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28.
