Flapjacks on the House

International House of Pancakes locations will raise money for the Children's Miracle Network by giving away free short stacks of pancakes on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The idea: They provide the pancakes, and diners donate what they would've spent ($4.79) or more. IHOP raised $875,000 last year and hopes to raise $1 million this year, which would take more than 208,000 stacks of gratis griddle cakes. Visit IHOP's special Web site for more info.

Mardi Gras Fundraisers

A jazz Mass and jambalaya feast to help Gulf Coast hurricane survivors takes place at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 22, at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church (665 W. Roller Coaster Road); a donation for Lutheran Disaster Response will be taken; 887-5127. Bring five cans of nonperishable food for the Tucson Community Food Bank to Brundog's Zy-De-Que (4825 N. First Ave.), and you'll be entered into a drawing for prizes at a Mardi Gras and grand re-opening celebration at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24; 887-2333; Brundog's Web site.

Casbah Could Close

Carol Ann Krueger, owner of the Casbah Teahouse at 628 N. Fourth Ave., says she may close the restaurant at the end of the month. "Right now, the whole world economy is really struggling, and the Casbah is a microcosm of the macrocosm," Krueger said. "We're just looking for a way to change ourselves to keep up with the times." The search is on for investors or ideas, but a farewell celebration is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28. Known for its laid-back attitude and vegetarian fare, the Casbah opened in 1995 and employs about 10 people; 740-0393; Casbah Web site.

Chef Alisah's

Noshing dropped into Chef Alisah's Restaurant at 5931 N. Oracle Road for lunch the other day and left full and happy. The place opened in November and is, to my knowledge, the only place in town to get authentic Bosnian food. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., daily; 887-5305; Chef Alisah's Web site.
