Café 54 at the GardensIf you can't get downtown for lunch at Café 54, now you can enjoy the creative menu at Tucson Botanical Gardens daily from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., through April 2007. Café 54 trains and employs adults recovering from mental illness by providing on-the-job training for line cooks, pastry chefs, prep cooks, servers and dishwashers.
ClosedI have to wonder why a restaurant stays open for only four or five months. Sabor on Broadway Boulevard had only been open since May 2006. While the food was pretty good and the menu ambitious, I never saw any advertisements. Previous tenants didn't last very long, either. Produce Corral also closed; it was located in a strip mall on Fort Lowell Road next to a revolving door of sushi restaurants. Gusto Ristorante on signage-crowded Oracle Road is gone; its location was behind Putney's. Four-year-old Aladdin has closed, too.
