Zarela will feature recipes from her latest book, Zarela's Veracruz: Cooking and Culture in Mexico's Tropical Melting Pot, named one of the Top 10 cookbooks of 2001. With the encouragement of Paul Prudhomme and Craig Claiborne, who were impressed by her vivid Mexican food, Zarela opened her first restaurant in Manhattan in 1983 and has been winning awards ever since. Café RameyDeparting Weekly contributor Walt Nett passed along this tip before moving to Fresno: Café Ramey is open for Sunday brunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and has live music. Love-Hate RelationshipWe have a love-hate relationship with Trader Joe's. What's not to love? An awesome selection of products priced much lower than A.J.'s Fine Foods. But what we hate is how products that we have fallen in love with disappear without any warning (much like past lovers). For instance, take the frozen parsley and garlic cubes. The garlic is long gone, and the parsley dwindles. Will it reappear? The supplying company, Dorot, was located in the Gaza Strip and is now shrouded in much uncertainty. Stay tuned ...
