Noshing Around

Dine for America

On Oct. 5, restaurants all over the country, along with the National Restaurant Association, will unite to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Each restaurant determines what percentage of the night's proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Go to the Web site, www.dineforamerica.org, to check out the dozens of local restaurants that are participating. At Fox Restaurant Concepts locations (Sauce, Bistro Zin, NoRTH and Wildflower), 100 percent of the profits will be donated, and personal contributions made by servers and managers will be matched by Sam and Emily Fox.

Café Pacific

Once again, Weekly readers voted P.F. Chang's as the best Chinese restaurant. Whatever. The damage is done, but consider locally owned Café Pacific at 3607 N. Campbell Ave., at Prince Road, in the Safeway shopping center. Regulars covet the intimacy and solicitous service, as well as food, bursting with freshness, that doesn't taste overly sweet like the stuff served at many of the Chinese chain restaurants; 326-5174.

Bravo!

On Sept. 10, Terra Cotta and the Rural Metro Fire Department hosted a fundraising barbecue that raised $6,274 to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.

Sunday Afternoon Wine Soiree

On Oct. 16, Slow Food Tucson hosts a private wine-and-cheese pairing at 58 Degrees and Holding Co. for members and guests. On hand will be a sumptuous array of hors d'oeuvres, along with a finale of fruits and chocolate. Certified Sommelier Kathleen Carter will discuss the art of wine and cheese pairing. A 10 percent discount will be offered for bottled wine purchases. 58 Degrees is located at 5640 E. Broadway Blvd. in Williams Centre. Prepaid reservations are a must; the cost for Slow Food members is $30; guests $35. Make your check payable to Slow Food and mail to Barry Infuso, 7166 E. Chorro Circle, Tucson, AZ 85715. For questions, call 290-1355.

Dragon View Restaurant

What happened? A Noshing reader said that the Dragon View at 400 N. Bonita Ave., has a "closed for remodeling" sign, but there's no remodeling going on, and the phone number is disconnected. If you know this scoop, please share.
