Frost
Could be the weather, but rumor has it that crowds are already filling the recently opened gelato joint in Casas Adobes Shopping Center at 7131 N. Oracle Road. Frost is locally owned by friends Jeff Kaiserman and Stephen Ochoa, who expertly create 39 made-on-the-premises flavors, including the hard to find, like hazelnut. Open daily from 11 a.m.; 797-0188.
El Vaquero
Under the expert direction of Patrick Fahey, former executive chef of the Desert Museum, El Vaquero features full-service upscale cowboy-Sonoran cuisine every Saturday evening at Old Tucson. Make a reservation 24 hours in advance to receive a complimentary romantic carriage ride from the parking lot to the restaurant; 883-0100.
Bombay Café
Bombay Café re-opened last month under new ownership. Judging by the number of tables filled on a sleepy Saturday afternoon, maybe these owners will stick around for awhile; located on the southeast corner of Grant Road and Tucson Boulevard; 881-2786.
Half Price Bottles of Wine
For the month of July, all nine Metro Restaurants are offering half-price bottles of wine with the purchase of an entrée. Check out McMahon's Steak House, the Old Pueblo Grille locations, Firecracker, City Grill, Metropolitan Grill, Metro Grill Park Place, Grill on the Green and the Grill at Torres Blancas.
Food and Film
