Old Pueblo Coffee Roasters opened about six months ago but recently doubled the square footage inside and added a lunch menu. Owner Eric Sahner was the roast master and manager of Coffee Etc. at Campbell Avenue and Glenn Street. When that location closed, he began roasting coffee wholesale in the new location. It wasn't long before the aroma led neighbors to ask him and his wife to start selling retail. He has since licensed the name "Coffee Etc." Sahner uses a 1940s German-built Pro-Batt roaster and offers almost 100 kinds of coffee blends and drinks. His specialty is mocha latte because of his house-made spice mix. Old Pueblo Coffee Roasters is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 4446 S. Sixth Ave., 434-0900.
Julia Child's Spoon
At the Tucson Culinary Festival's Nov. 7 grand tasting, there will be wines for sampling from more than 70 wineries and 30 top local chefs offering culinary specialties. The silent auction sizzles with a wooden spoon that once belonged to and was autographed by Julia Child--donated by culinary radio personality Jennifer English--plus other luxurious food and wine finds and more surprises. It all happens at the Westward Look Resort from 5-8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $75, and the event benefits SACASA, Community Food Bank and Tucson Originals. Hot Time Downtown
From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at El Presidio Park, Tucson Fire Fighters' Association Local No. 479 hosts the Ninth Annual Tucson Fire Fighters Chili Cook-Off to benefit needy families during the holiday season, on behalf of the Adopt-a-Family program. About 30 volunteer teams will participate. Sample a cup of chili for $1 and enjoy live entertainment plus children's activities. For more information, call 444-8961.
