Jake Broido is a 22-year-old musician, film director, concert promoter, philosophy student and all-around cool dude. What was the first concert you attended?
My first memorable concert experience is the time my older brother took me to see Blood Brothers at Amoeba Records in Hollywood.
What are you listening to these days?
I've been listening to an eclectic mix of hip-hop lately. West Coast work from the late '90s, Dr. Dre, Bone Thugs and Harmony, X to the Z.
What was the first album you owned?
I'll take NSYNC's HitClips (a digital music player circa 1999-2002) for $40, Bob.
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
Are those Germans still listening to Hasselhoff? If so, I'm going to go with that. If not, Steve Aoki.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
I would love to see Chance the Rapper. He's just coming off a world tour with Mackelmore and is performing a 90-minute set at the Rialto on Nov. 14.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Hi, my name is Jake and I'm a recovering Fall Out Boy addict..."Hi, Jake."
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
I'd like to be lowered down to "Welcome to Miami" by Will Smith. His stuff is so carnal.
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
I had the pleasure of being personal assistant to Greg Wells for a year. He is the genius producer behind Katy Perry's first record, Mika.He changed my life ... one of which is his philosophy on the experience of recording music. He gave me the resources to start producing music of my own.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Postal Service, Give Up. It's really hard to beat.
