Brittany Katter moved to Tucson from Eugene, Ore., three years ago and started a band called the Fell City Shouts with Gabriel Sullivan. Today, she works at Café Passé on Fourth Avenue, serving up sandwiches, coffee and high fives; she also sings and shakes it in '60s-esque soul-group Kiss and the Tells, who will play at the Red Room at Grill on Friday, May 13.
What was the first concert you ever saw?
The Rock-n-Roll Soldiers, at WOW Hall in Eugene, Ore.—one of those hotshot local bands that had just gotten signed. They were so loud; I had hallucinatory dreams all night. I flunked my SATs the next morning.
What are you listening to these days?
The Soul Stirrers, Toots and the Maytals, Sharon Jones, Patti Smith, Bobbie Smith and the Dream Girls, and Joy Division.
What was the first album you owned?
Barenaked Ladies, Stunt (the one with "One Week"). I was 10.
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
Taylor Swift.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
Ike and Tina Turner Revue, anytime during 1969-1971.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Disney and The Lord of the Rings soundtracks.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
The Soul Stirrers, "By and By."
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
T. Rex. That music taught me how I wanted to walk down the street.
