What was the first concert you ever saw?
Judas Priest. I was about 13, and my friend and I were so excited to be without our parents, we broke a bench.
What CDs are in your changer right now?
What's around my CD player are Bent, Ariels; DJ Shadow, The Outsider; Friends of Dean Martinez, The Shadow of Your Smile; The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Take It From the Man!; Monsters Are Waiting; Fascination. And The World of Ike and Tina Live is on the turntable.
How many total albums do you own? (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)
Records: about five or six milk crates. CDs: about 400.
Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?
No, but only because I keep my home machine freestanding.
What was the first album you owned?
There were probably some acid house singles first, but The Wolfgang Press, The Burden of Mules, was the first full-length album.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
Something with bagpipes.
Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
William Shatner is a genius.
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Hawkwind's Space Ritual would be the one album I've raved about the most. But that has a lot to do with it being the anthem for one of those long road-tripping summers.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Captain Beefheart, Safe as Milk.
