Sam Brace is a 22-year-old UA student who currently plays bass for Murder Victim. Two upcoming scheduled shows: July 15 at The Rock, 136 N. Park Ave., with Gat-Rot; and July 23 at The Living Room, 415 E. Fifth St., with Armed for Battle.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Honestly, I can't remember the first concert I went to, but the first memorable hardcore show I went to was in College Park, Md., to see Buried Alive and Reach the Sky play back in 1999.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

I've been listening to the new Guns Up!, Remembering Never, Crime in Stereo, Angels and Airwaves, This Is Hell, Set Your Goals and Taking Back Sunday.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

I have a massive collection of music, at least 1,000 albums floating around my apartment.

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

I do download music, but it's always legal.

What was the first album you owned?

Poison's Flesh and Blood. I bought the cassette at Wal-Mart when I was 5 and listened to it nonstop. I still have a soft spot for hair metal to this day.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

Personally, I don't want any music played at my funeral ... I know that I'd want (the funeral) to be just really peaceful.

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

I really don't believe in guilty pleasures, but there are definitely some bands and singers I listen to that I've been made fun of for. For example, my friends don't understand why I love the new Mariah Carey album, but I think it's one of the best albums in the past few years.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Descendents. I bought their album Everything Sucks back in 1996, and I had never heard anything so fun, fast and with such musical talent. They're definitely the reason I got into punk and then hardcore later.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

I'm going to High Fidelity this one. Everything Sucks by Descendents; Maybe I'll Catch Fire by Alkaline Trio; Shorter, Faster, Louder by Kid Dynamite; Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate; and So Far From Home by Reach the Sky.
