Nine Questions

With all the consolidation, profiteering and dumbing down of commercial radio, the term "radio personality" has devolved to mean "master of scatology with the intellect of a pigeon." Not for nothing does community radio KXCI's Kidd Squidd almost always garner Best Radio Personality honors in the Weekly's Best of TucsonTM. Most of us know him only via the rich cache of his Mystery Juke Box, Saturdays from 2 to 5 p.m.: artsy, rootsy, moon-y/June-y, wispy, wrenching, brash, continental, antique, experimental. Perhaps that is his personality?

What was the first concert you ever saw?

First live rock 'n' roll I saw was an unknown surf instrumental band playing at a restaurant in my hometown of Kankakee, Ill. They wore gold suits and had pompadours. The year was 1961, which would make me around 13.

The Rolling Stones Now!, 1965.
