News and Notes

A couple bits of information for you this week ...

· In this issue you'll find something unusual for the Weekly: a story that isn't locally themed. We're breaking our "local only" rule this week to run this important piece, "Fables of the Reconstruction." The story, by American Prospect correspondent Jason Vest, was commissioned by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN); the Weekly is an AAN member. Focusing on a sobering, disturbing coalition authority memo in Iraq, the piece has been getting big buzz since it was first released on Tuesday (April 20) on AAN member Web sites, including tucsonweekly.com. It's worth a careful read.

· If you haven't already done so, I strongly encourage you to do your duty as a conscientious Tucsonan and vote for the TAMMIES and Best of Tucson ®. The Best of Tucson ballot can be found online at tucsonweekly.com; the TAMMIES ballot is only in the print edition. Be sure to follow the rules, and again, if you are even THINKING about ballot stuffing, beat yourself over the head with a hat-rack or something until those vile thoughts go away.
